(Salem, Ore. – August 5, 2024) – Eight students get the chance to gain real world health care careers experience this summer in Salem Health’s newly launched summer internship program.
Salem Health Hospitals and Clinics designed the program to support the next generation of leaders in health care by fostering growth, development and a deeper understanding of the vital role health care services play in our community.
The two-month summer internship offers undergraduate students practical training, mentorship and the opportunity to apply their academic knowledge to their internship role at Salem Health. The students will work alongside Salem Health staff to get a glimpse into the diverse features of a health care system, such as marketing, nursing administration, leadership, and business development.
Students selected for this summer’s cohort hail from western states including Oregon, Washington, California, and Alaska, and from as far away as Myanmar. They represent a variety of degree pursuits including public health, human physiology, business administration, psychology, biochemistry, human development and biology. Salem Health welcomes to this year’s program: Valerie Brudie, Anson Fleming, Karalyn Holt, Zachary Kuenzi, Tulsi Patel, Ben Royer, Camille Sewell and Casey Win.
Casey Win, a senior at Oregon State University, shared, “The internship program has been rewarding and, in a way, life-changing, because I came into the program with doubts about my future career in health care. Thanks to the invaluable guidance and support from my managers in the program, I’ve been able to see my potential and my goal of pursuing a career in health care administration feels achievable.”
This summer internship program is made possible by the Salem Health Foundation, and support of donors plays a pivotal role in fostering the professional development of our future health care workforce.
