Taking nursing to a new level: The top 7 percent nationwide

When you hear the term “quality care,” what does that really mean? If you’re not a doctor or a nurse, will you know it when you see it?

The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) has taken the guesswork out of finding great medical care. The Magnet Recognition Program® is a rigorous vetting process that takes a demonstrated track record of excellent outcomes to prove quality care really is delivered in a health care setting.

Magnet designation recognizes health care organizations for quality patient care, clinical excellence and innovations in professional nursing practice.

And Magnet status cannot be achieved without the support and dedication to the highest care standards by other health care professionals throughout the organization, in such areas as the laboratory, imaging center, pharmacy and more.

This coveted honor was achieved at Salem Hospital for the first time in 2010 with seven years of dedicated focus by clinical and professional staff—nearly 4,000 employees—in partnership with community physicians and volunteers. The hospital team achieved redesignation in 2015, surpassing an even higher bar of Magnet patient care standards. You can read the details in our nursing annual reports.

Consumers rely on Magnet designation as the ultimate credential for high-quality nursing care. Only 7 percent of hospitals nationwide can claim the impressive Magnet® honor. At Salem Health, Magnet is a state of mind and the core of what is done everyday for patients.
